Laptop 13 AMD dock with Dell WD19S

Hello there,

Just received my replacement motherboard from support after a looooooong wait and now I have strange behavior with my Dell WD19S dock.

When I have the dock plugged, I have some windows freeze (no taskbar, can’t restart explorer and other glitches). When I reboot with the dock plugged, the laptop will freeze and do nothing except a black screen and the lighted power button. I need to make a long press on the start button.

I’ve read the megathread for dock issues/compatibilities but found nothing usefull.
Does someone has an idea ?

Thank you very much (sorry for my bad english…)

Hi,
Did you reset the dock?
Remove power cable and press power button for 10 seconds. Then power it again, power button should flash 3 times.

Regards

Hey Fred,

Yes I just did that and nothing changed. I also noticed that Youtube video is not starting and I have no sound on my monitor, just the 2 monitors and a lot a bugs :frowning:

My 2 monitors are 60hz and 1440p and 1080p. Any ideas ?

I also just tried to reinstall the AMD Adrenalin suite and the screen went black, fans full speed and nothing more… Just stuck.

Thank you !

Hello Jabbabi,

As you are using windows, there maybe drivers to install and/or firmware to update. Did you have a look on dell website?

Regards.

Yes, already installed the 4 drivers listed here https://www.dell.com/support/home/fr-fr/product-support/product/dell-wd19s-130w-dock/drivers.

I just unplugged the dock for now and trying to reinstall AMD drivers.

I ran a huge memtest86+ with 5 passes and my RAM is good (2x32GO). I’m really starting to think that this laptop is not reliable…

Maybe you should try a bootable Linux to see if it work fine. Maybe there is something wrong with your Windows install…
You said that you just get a new otherboard, did you reinstall you OS or just reuse it? I don’t know anything about Windows, but this may be related.

Its a fresh windows 11 install. I will try with a bootable linux and keep you update

Tried with ubuntu 22.04.1 live install and still the same. The laptop just stay with black screen when I reboot… Any idea ?

Hi Jabbabi,
From my point of view, it should just work. Personally, I have an AMD (running Fedora 40) like you and I have a dell WD15. It work mostly fine.
I guess you try to change USB C port used on your FW? Do you use the top left or right one.
Regards

Maybe, the dock is faulty? Did you try it with another computer?

I bought another dock (Cable matters 201308) and it just works fine except that at some point (even if windows is set to never suspend, the laptop won’t wake up on keyboard or mouse input). I changed the wake on power in BIOS and have to replug the dock if it happens.

I can confirm that the WD19S doesn’t work with the framework AMD 7640, even when the dock is downgraded.

@Fred_Z Yes, already tried to change USB C port

A useless 250€ brick…

It appears that after a couple of days, if I plug an USB device into my dock, the laptop will have the same behavior, freeze and won’t restart on how own… Is there any support out there ? Also I just experienced today that the bluetooth is not reliable with my Google pixel 7. I won’t stay connected. Worst laptop experience I ever had… :frowning:

I have the exact same experience. Also using Dell WD19TB and every now and then my taskbar and startmenu are gone and the only solution is a restart. I have this almost daily. I also experience the same restart/shutdown behavior, meaning windows will shutdown but the laptop stays active with white background leds still being on unless I hard shutdown by holding the power button for a couple seconds.

Hey ! I just fixed that by disabled the audio coprocessor following this thread: [SOLVED] USB Audio problems with Framework 16

Hope this will work for you…

I disabled it right now, see my post: Windows Update 24H2 Issue - Docking stations problems however I am not sure if that will really solve the issue?
