When connected to an external screen, after a while, the laptop screen freezes. The external screen keeps working. Only a hard reboot allows to unfreeze the screen.
The external screen has an integrated USB Hub, so it’s providing power, screen, ethernet connexion, keyboard and mouse through a single USB-C cable.
I though this was software related (Linux Fedora), but today, right after the hard reboot, I had no screen at all. No laptop one, no external one. I had to cycle multiple reboot presses. Each time, the laptop seemed to boot, but without image, same connecting or unconnecting the external screen. I then end up connecting a normal power plug for a while unplugging the external screen, and reboot, and finally I got image, so perhaps hardware related?
Same problem on the 7640U version with Fedora Silverblue 42. The applications on the frozen display are responsive, e.g. I managed to pause and play video, it was also visible playing in the window switcher preview pane.
Then perhaps Fedora related. I’ve updated to Fedora 43 today, let see if the problem persists. It didn’t happened to me for 10 days, so perhaps it was software related after all, crossing fingers.
Aaaah it happened again. Despite the Fedora 43 update. Common point: it seems to always happen after a suspend. I’m working a little bit, and suddenly the laptop screen freezes.
