Locked out of computer

Help! I woke up this morning to my computer being turned off completly which I rarely do. I boot and try my finger print and get error “your pin has not been setup” which it has , I setup 2 year ago when I bout. I click to setup pin and nothing, no box, no popup screen, etc. I try my password which I know it right. “Incorrect” reset password security question answer “incorrect”.

I cant tell you which batch I have cause I cant get in the computer. This is my business computer and need a quick solution.

That’s a tough one. :slightly_frowning_face: On the plus side, you do have access to the hardware, so it’s not as tough as it could be.

Do you have recent-enough backups for all of your important data? If so, you can use a Windows install USB to reinstall the entire OS from scratch. You might be able to do so without wiping out your data, but I can’t guarantee that, thus the question about backups.

If you don’t have backups, but your hard drive isn’t encrypted, you can try booting from a Linux “live” USB drive to get to a place where you can mount your Windows drive and copy your data to a backup drive.

If you don’t have either a Windows install USB or a Linux “live” USB already created, then I hope you have a second computer that you can use to download the necessary data to create one. Otherwise you’ll need to use a friend’s system. I keep a couple of them handy at all times, because I’ve run into this kind of problem several times over the years, but I don’t know of many other people who do.

I wish I could give you better news. :slightly_frowning_face:
