New USB C module

I just received a marketing update that is talking about new USB-C expansion ports:

Quote: The new modules we introduced this generation are mostly in stock too (2.8k Display Kit and USB-C Expansion Cards in a range of colors are in stock, …

Are these expansion cards only new because of the case colour or are they different modules that possibly fix the continuous USB C port problems that are experienced by many many people? If the guts of the expansion port has been updated/improved I would love to order some but I don’t need them if they are the same with just a new colour coded outside case (to match my socks ??? Why ??? )

Same internal, only different in colour and material.

(Otherwise, it would have a 2nd Gen designation like other cards)

In the end, all of the USB C expansion cards are just passive connectors. They are similar to extension cables and provide no additional functionality to the Framework’s ports other than just exposing the USB C port past the Expansion Card inset.

This is why they do not add any additional power draw. The USB C controller is still on the mainboard itself.
