@Jan_Brugard
have you tried the debloated windows?
What’s that?
(it sounds like it’s far away from me. I just want things that work right of the box)
I’m not sure what RTX GPU is in your Asus gaming machine, but I would agree that there is essentially zero chance that the AI 350 with it’s integrated GPU is ever going to measure up if you are using it for gaming.
The Framework 16 is available with an RTX 5070 12GB, which would be leaps and bounds better for gaming than the FW 13. Whether or not it is good enough will depend on what kind of games you play and what performance level you are looking for.
I think the main reason people were trying to help figure out if there was something “wrong” with your system, is because the AI 350 should have zero issues with web browsing. If the computer struggles even with that, then there may be an actual issue with the machine. If the “other workloads” you are dealing with are games and it’s the gaming performance that is causing you the biggest issue, then I think you’re right, and you should probably move to a Framework 16, or another gaming laptop from another brand.
Either way, I hope you find something that works for you. Cheers!
The “Ryzen AI 5/7” has a 30% to 40% inferior iGPU compared to previous “Ryzen 5/7”. If you use a single channel RAM you’ll get 40% less framerates. so if you use Ryzen AI 7 350 with 1X32, you’ll get 70% worse performance than using 2X16 on a Ryzen 7 7840U.
If Ryzen 7 7840U is not available, you can buy the Ryzen AI 9 HX370. This is the only “Ryzen 9” on the FL13. Being a Ryzen 9, it can undervolt using voltage offset or curve optimizer like those FL16 with a 7940HS CPU.
You can use an RTX 5070 12GB but the price doesn’t really make sense. Compare the price with the RTX 5070 8GB. Solve this math problem: y = ax + b while y is the price, a is the VRAM price per GB, x is the VRAM size, b is the dGPU board without VRAM.
699 = a X 8 + b
1199 = a X 12 + b
The solution is:
a = 125, b = -301
Even if you could pimp the performance a bit, the integrated iGPU will never beat a dedicated RTX if you are searching a machine for serious gaming. I’m sorry this was not obvious to you.
hmmm. guess not then.
try have a go posting a for sale, you can see similar for sale in there Community Market - Framework Community
Why selling it. If it’s inside the 30 days you can just return the device
To understand the problem (which I think I have now).
Thanks, didnt know that. Then I will do that.
It’s less clear than that. The AI 300 series has RDNA 3.5 graphics, and they’re clocked a bit higher than the RDNA 3 graphics in the 7x40U series.
The AI 340 clearly loses to the 7640U. Four of the newer CUs simply can’t keep up with eight of the older ones. The AI 350 (8 x RDNA 3.5) and 7840U (11 x RDNA 3) trade blows in benchmarks. The AI HX 370 is in a class of its own with sixteen RDNA 3.5 CUs, but it’s also in a price class of its own.
All AMD APUs suffer badly with single channel memory; the performance hit on graphics is 30% or more. You always want dual channel unless you simply don’t care about performance.
ah yes, indeed, returning is an option ![]()
Very good point. I wonder if the configurator should offer a gentle warning to folks picking single-sticks?
That sounds reasonable. There are probably other tips that could be given to help customers to the best choice possible.
