My guess is that my touchpad cable needs to be replaced, but I’ll describe the problem.
My noisy fan made me decide to look at the fan before ordering a new one.
When I opened the 13, 12th generation, one of cables stuck to the keyboard side. This may have been a side effect of my recent keyboard replacement.
Now the mainboard side of the touchpad cable frequently falls out.
The power button usually fails to work. When the power button works, only some of the keys on the keyboard function.
Could a broken touchpad cable cause these problems.
The power button and keyboard cables should not be affected by the touchpad cable. Frameworks are not like MacBooks, where the components are usually daisy-chained.
I would try opening the laptop back up and reconnecting all the headers for the components. If the keyboard is still having issues and it is less than a year old, get in touch with support to see if they can send you a replacement.
Considering that they mentioned the “mainboard side” of the touchpad cable, I’d guess they mean to refer to the main input cover connector which does carry signals for the keyboard, fingerprint reader, power button, keyboard backlight and touchpad.
They would indeed all be affected if there was an issue with such connector.
Yes, thanks.
The main input cover connector is what i meant.
I have tried resetting cables a few times.
Also, i don’t see the SW1 switch, though i see a label.
Did I knock it off during some round of maintenance? A backup power switch would be useful at a time like this.
Any suggestions for a replacement?
