[RESOLVED] Windows 11 becoming increasingly unreliable; can't shut down or restart properly

Hi, I’m not sure if this is just an issue with Windows or if there’s some hardware or driver issues. Over the past week or two, my system has become increasingly unreliable, lots of programs have become slower/laggier, and I can’t restart or shut down properly.

Exported reliability history

If I try to restart, it hangs on the ‘Restarting’ spinning wheel screen.
If I try to shutdown, it gets to the point where the display shuts off, but the power button continues to glow and won’t let me boot the system without first holding down the button to force power off.

It sometimes doesn’t connect to my bluetooth mouse, and my xbox controller.
If I try to remove a bluetooth and re-add it, it sometimes stays stuck on ‘Removing’ until I reboot.
Occasionally USB devices don’t work until I reboot.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

  • Which OS (Operating System)?
    Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC
  • Which release of your OS (Operating System / Windows 10, 11)? (if you are having a Linux related issue, please create your thread under the Linux subcategory)
    Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100
  • Which Framework laptop (11th, 12th or 13th generation Framework laptop, Chromebook or Framework Laptop 16) are you asking for support with?
    Framework Laptop 16

This is going to be an interesting one because I believe you are the first one to report using IoT Enterprise LTSC Windows on your Framework 16. Have you pulled down any driver updates for the graphics cards or chipset since installing the Framework bundled drivers? Is your laptop part of an enterprise network? (Asking because of the influence of some GPOs and other settings.)

Have you tried reinstalling the Framework driver bundle?

Here’s the update history:

The laptop is not part of an enterprise network/domain.

I have reinstalled the Framework driver bundle a few days ago and it hasn’t seemed to make a difference. I will try re-installing it again.

The AMD system one under drivers would be one I’m curious about. Interested to hear how things are running after you reinstall the driver bundle.

The issues have largely stopped since reinstalling the driver bundle. Not sure what was different this time around from when I reinstalled last week, but it seems to have done the trick! Thanks

When you reinstall the driver bundle, are you simply rerunning the installer or doing anything beforehand? I only ask as I am having similar issues and rerunning the installer hasn’t helped.

I have been having a similar issue. I just reverted to a previous version of Windows 11 via the go-back capability. Things seem to be better now, but I wonder what will happen the next time I update. Also, as part of the issue I noticed a PWA (Progress Web Application) I have installed on my taskbar (or desktop) stopped working. I also think I have all the late drivers and I’m running Windows 11 Microsoft Windows Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4602). See the error message I mentioed below below.

After reverting to a previous version of Windows I had to uninstall all the PWA (except CoPlot which was still working) and reinstall for things to work.

pwahelper.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).
Click OK to close the application.
OK

Any updates on this? I am having similar issues but I don’t seem to have go-back capability.

Well, Windows latest stance on if you run into issues is too bad we are not spending time fixing all these bugs (I’m paraphrasing but that’s the general vibe). So either reinstalling Windows or switching to Linux are the options
