[Responded] Fedora 41 on gnome make game run slower unless the game is run in gamescope

Hello,
on my framework 16 with the rx 7700s
i downloaded fedora 41, installed it and tried to play on it but every games i launch are slow.
like a game that is supposed to be running at 90 fps run a 40 fps
the strange thing is that if i run them in gamescope i don’t have this problem, i also don’t have it on KDE.
anyone had the same problem ?

Howdy!

I’ll try to see if I can replicate some of this behavior over the weekend on my Framework 16. My first guess based on the description would be this relates to Fedora’s default power saving settings for the dGPU. If you have not seen it already, we have a section in our support article about optimizing Fedora battery life that describes this behavior. We also provide some instructions you can follow on Github to configure a game’s launch options on Steam to activate the dGPU without strictly using Gamescope to do so.

hello,
the optimizing guide did help for most game, some game are still having issues like abiotic factor but for those games gamescope fix the problem.
for some reason sometime the steamwebhelper crash when in game.
i did changes those variable in the .desktop to be able to open steam:
PrefersNonDefaultGPU=false
X-KDE-RunOnDiscreteGpu=false
but it still randomly crash when launching a game.
