[RESPONDED] Occasional 100% CPU load

Hello, so I’m running Arch Linux on my Framework 13 laptop, with LXQt as the desktop environment. Everything works fine, but occasionally (maybe once per day), the laptop will go into 100% CPU load and starts heating up really bad, with the fans also on at max speed. running top shows that the Xorg process takes up 100% CPU load, with lxqt-panel at 50% also. The problem goes away after a restart.

My question is since this is intermittent, how can I gather more information to figure out what’s the issue? Is there some command I can run when this happens again? If this is not the right place to ask this question, where can I learn more about investigating the issue? Thanks.

Which board for the Framework 13?

Sorry I forgot to mention, the AMD board.

You could try looking at the system journal or maybe xorg logs. The Arch Wiki has some articles on both of that.

Also depending on how much you are willing to investigate, you could try another DE. The idea being that maybe it’s actually a subprocess of xorg, being a part of LXQt, which is causing that problem…

Oh and how long has this been going on for? Could it have been caused or fixed by updating?

Agree with @David_Penkowoj , Try other DEs.
perhaps try Ubuntu 24.04 Live with wayland default, as well as Xorg.
