[RESPONDED] Question regarding the UHS-II support of the new full-sized SD Expansion Card

I’ve inquired Framework Support the following question:

Hello, the product description of your new full-sized SD Expansion Card claims:

The SD Expansion Card supports UHS-I and UHS-II

However, according to an external info source, the card reader controller chip that the expansion card uses seems to be Genesys Logic’s GL3230, which (according to its Features page https://www.genesyslogic.com.tw/en/product_view.php?show=70), only supports UHS-I speed.

Are there any errors in the product description, or it is that the SD Expansion Card uses a different controller chip(e.g. the GL3230S) that supports UHS-II speed cards?

Thanks.

What’s the source for it using a Genesys Logic GL3230?

It is mentioned in the pull request that introduce the firmware upgrade support to the fwupd project:

Looks like the driver supports multiple gl32xx series chips. I’d guess that he just accidentally truncated the S off the part number. Seems more likely than Framework’s description just wrongly adding UHS-II.

Tho I understand you want confirmation & presumably contacted support with the question already.

Yeah, that’s what I’m suspecting as well.

There is a video interview with Nirav where he says it does UHS-II
So, I don’t think the UHS-II is a typo.

we use a GL3232S controller in the SD Expansion card which supports UHS-II

Thanks for the info (as well as the support ticket response)! Yeah, that’s a sensible choice for the SD Expansion Card.
