Second monitor display turns off when I open the lid

Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1413)

Framework laptop 12th gen

2HDMI ports, each connected to side-by-side Asus external monitors.

It was working for a few weeks, but now when I close my laptop lid, my second external monitor will turn on but when I open the lid, the second monitor turns off and is not detected. I have mad sure “do nothing” is selected when my laptop lid is closed in the Power settings (plugged in), my displays are all set to “Extend these displays”, scale is at 125%, Resolution is 1920 x 1080 (Recommended). I have made sure my drivers are up to date.

It used to extend my desktop across all three displays when the lid was open, but now it turns off the 2nd external monitor and only extends to the 1st external monitor.

Have you run any updates recently? If yes, do you have any system restore points that you could revert back to?

I don’t really have a lot of experience with Windows, but you could check the “Event Viewer” if something is logged why it shuts down the external display #2.
