[Showcase] RGB LED Matrix Input Module

I see, thanks for the clarification. I’m sure I’m gonna regret my spending at the end of the month, but I ordered a pair on Etsy! I wonder how hard it would be to make the glass frosty on it…

It shouldn’t be too hard. You could probably take some fine grit sand paper and carefully scratch the clear plastic cover.

Possibly. Altho, if it’s not glued, I would rather try to make a set of frosted replacement instead. Could try making a… Barrier thing, and turn the leds into square pixels thing too.

I’m not even sure what they’re capable of but already have way too many ideas to do with them. Can’t wait for it!

Etsy has suspended my account again! Starting to regret my decision to pick Etsy. Both times they have suspended my account, they have not sent me any emails giving a reason.

The module is not glued together. If you wanted to, you could take it apart for customization.

Is it going to have those (pads? capacitors?) on the front like that?

No, that was for prototyping. Here is a look at the front of the production circuit board. It just has the LEDs on the front. The real PCBs will be black instead of green. That’s just how it looks in the Kicad 3D viewer.

Nice! Tho it does seem to be complicated to manufacture the cover…

Etsy may be thinking it’s a scam because of the long from now shipping? Maybe kickstarter or indie gogo would be better for this? They didn’t send an email about refund, so maybe they’re just investigating

New to the forums, this is my first interraction! Woohoo!
Just came here to say this is really impressive work, I’ve pre-ordered 2 of them on your Etsy page and came to see why it was gone lol. For a brief second I thought I’d fallen for an April Fools Day joke!

I support this all the way. Great to know the PCB comes away from the housing, too. Is there a special tool you need for that or can you just do it with a fingernail? My official matrix panels haven’t come yet (neither the laptop) so I’m really looking forward to see how it all fits together.
Even the modules have modules. What a time to be alive!

Sorry about all the Etsy headache everyone. Here is a new link that should be good. This is on my own website, so I don’t have to worry about being suspended. If you would like to cancel your Etsy order and place an order on my website please feel free to do so. If you have any issues with canceling your Etsy order please reach out to me at jschroedl.blog@gmail.com

International shipping should be cheaper on my website since it uses Shopify.

My Tindie listing was approved.

Although, I’ve set it to be out of stock on Tindie for the time being. If you would like to purchase a module, please use my store webpage here: https://jschroedl.com/store

This made me chuckle lol (qty is 1,000,000, not 10,000, it’s just cut off in the screenshot)

Can I just leave my Etsy order in place and still get the modules when they’re ready?

On the subject of switching out the PCB, I tried disassembling one of the LED matrices to see how difficult it would be and the little ribbon cable worried me with how fragile it seemed like it might be. How much force does it actually take to pull it out of an original LED matrix?

It should be easy. FFC connectors have a latch or drawer mechanism which opens to release the cable. It looks like the Framework LED matrix board has a flip up latch located at the front. The black part is the latch. github.com/FrameworkComputer/InputModules/tree/main/Electrical/LEDMatrix

Yes, you don’t have to cancel your Etsy order if you don’t want to. Some people have since the shipping is cheaper through Shopify on my website. But, all the Etsy orders that have been placed are still in the system. I will fulfill them along with my website orders when I have the modules ready.

okay, im thinking maybe you would come out better too if i cancelled and reordered on your site. you may keep more of the money?

It isn’t that much of a difference. But, if the Shopify store saves you money on shipping then by all means you can request a refund on Etsy.

Sold out! I have sold out of all 40 complete modules that I have the hardware to make. I contact Framework to hopefully purchase more plastic and metal parts to make more modules.
