[SOLVED] New Framework 13, screen has no illumination

I received my new framework laptop yesterday, and the build went smoothly.

I can boot the machine, and even begin an Ubuntu install, but there is no backlight or other illumination to the screen (2.8k) - it currently works only like low contrast unilluminated e-paper, in that I can see nothing if the room is dark, but when I shine a bright light at the screen I can see faintly what is displayed.

Does anyone know if there is a particular cable I should check, in case this is simply a matter of power not getting through to the backlight?

Or have I likely just been unlucky and received a dud screen?

  • Which OS?
No OS installed yet, but will be Ubuntu 22.04.1
  • Which Framework laptop?
Framework Laptop 13 DIY Edition (Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 1)

Check first the display cable going to the left side of the motherboard.

Also the other end, which should be located at the backside of the display panel.

Hi and welcome to the forum

There is only one display cable and clearly it’s passing data.

Is this a DIY i.e. have you opened the chassis, in which case check the display cable is routed and seated properly, and of course contact support asap.

That was very helpful.

I just reseated the motherboard end of the display cable and all is now working well.

Thanks for your help!
