System gets really slow

Which Linux distro are you using?
Ubuntu

Which release version?
Latest

Also on up-to-date Manjaro, separate machine

Which kernel are you using? Latest Ubuntu/Manjaro default

Which BIOS version are you using? 3.05 and 3.06

Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

The system really bogs down, about every 20-40 hours. Once it happens, I have never seen it recover. It makes everything choppy. Frames of videos playing, trackpad/cursor, keyboard/letters on screen, it’s all delayed and choppy, like 1 second between input and response, or between frames on videos playing.

I restart to fix it.

It could be linux-specific. Has anyone else had this issue? On linux or windows, both are interesting.

It could be caused by the BIOS. Even though it’s been on 3.05 and 3.06.

It could be the SSDs, but that seems highly unlikely that independently, two seemingly excellent-health, 1ish year old SSDs of different brands would start having this problem at about the same time, and neither would actually totally fail.

Any ideas?

I was getting what appears to be the same issue amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 seems to have fixed it so far.

I went with upgrading kernel to 6.12. Seemed to fix this problem across KDE and GNOME, and fedora and ubuntu for users on many different threads (outside framework community mostly). Will see if I get the issue again. A nice side effect is my RAM is 8-11GB used vs 23-28GB for essentially the same programs/windows open.
