Th3p4g3 egpu not working

win11
framework 13 amd 7640u
th3p4g3
msi geforce rtx 3070 ventus 2x oc

Trying to get my th3p4g3 egpu working, one thing that I noticed is that the CPU slot on the power supply needs to be connected to the board and the GPU slot on the power supply needs to be connected to the GPU for the light to turn green on the board. BUT it doesn’t show up in the display cards. It does show as intel usb 3.10 eXtensible host controller and thunderbolt 3 router, adaptertek - tamales2 85w test.
Trying to install the graphics card driver, it just says that it doesnt exist!

Ive tried searching and haven’t found anyone with this problem, any help and I would be grateful.

Hey there! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your setup. Here are a few steps you might try:

  1. Update Everything
  • Make sure your BIOS, AMD chipset drivers, Thunderbolt drivers, and NVIDIA drivers are fully up to date.
  1. Double-Check PSU Cables
  • Ensure the “CPU” cable from your power supply is connected to the eGPU board and the “GPU” cable is connected to the graphics card.
  • Confirm your power supply can deliver enough wattage for the 3070.
  1. Try Different Ports/Cables
  • Use another Thunderbolt cable or a different port to see if it makes a difference.
  1. Check Kernel DMA Protection
  • In some cases, disabling Kernel DMA Protection in the Windows security settings can help with certain eGPU issues.
  1. Clean Install NVIDIA Drivers
  • Use a tool like DDU to completely remove any existing graphics drivers, then do a fresh install of the latest NVIDIA drivers.

Hope this helps! Feel free to let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions. Good luck!

How are you going with this, have you got it working? I ask because I have the same eGPU adapter and it works, but there are some issues. I had to restart a couple of times for the external graphics to show up.

thanks for the reply Tinkererer_Belle. no i havent and i sent it to an IT shop and they couldnt either. they said it wasnt usb4.0 compatable which isnt right. do you have ryzen or intel???
:face_exhaling:

apparently the egpu is working it has to do with the usb4.0 compatabillity! (NOT WITH THE FRAMEWORK!)

Good to hear it’s working! Although why it would have issues with USB 4.O compatibility, who knows.

I have the Intel 12th gen (i7 1260p) and have concluded my TH3P4G3 is defective. The eGPU works really well, both plugged into my Framework and with an external monitor, but I can’t plug anything into the two ports on the back without it resetting the connection.

you got the wrong idea it works with other laptops not with the framework ryzen 7.

Oh I see. That’s no good then.

I’m afraid I’m not much help, but at least one other person with AMD got it to work without the 8 pin CPU plugged in. Beyond that, there should be a way to force-install the graphics drivers even if the card isn’t detected.

All of which you’d hope the professionals would be doing.
