Touchpad clicks often not registering

I recently got my batch #8 AMD powered Framework "13 laptop and have since been fighting with the touchpad (running on Ubuntu 22.04, 6.2.0-39-generic).

The main issue is that any kind of click-dragging is broken (not just could be better, but does not work properly). Think click and dragging for selecing text in an editor, or click and moving windows around. There seems to always be a “mouse up” event happening in the middle of the action which causes the window drag to stop or the text selection to go wrong.

Tapping and gestures work fine as far as I can tell.

Any ideas on what this could be if software related, or does this simply indicate a broken trackpad?

Not sure what exactly changed in the time since I posted this issue, but the issues I described have been resoved. In the meantime I disabled a few Gnome plugins as well as updated various system packages. So am not sure what was at fault, but it doesn’t seem to have been the hardware it self.
