Trackpad only works clicking on some spots

Linux Mint 22 (posting this on support not Linux because this seems to be a hardware issue)
Framework 13 (AMD Ryzen 7 7840U)
BIOS version 3.05

Trackpad only works when I click it on specific spots. I can tap to click just fine, but if I push down all the way it doesn’t click sometimes. I’ve tried:

  • reinstalling my OS
  • opening my laptop and cleaning out area around trackpad (there was a hair between the trackpad and the metal plate attached to it that I pulled out. This didn’t fix the problem.)
  • restarting my OS

I’m unsure what else to try, and I would like my trackpad to work properly. I’d prefer to not have to replace my trackpad again after the last one died, so any possible solutions would be very helpful.

I’m not sure I understand what the problem is. Do you mean it does not physically click or that it does physically click and it doesn’t do anything in the OS?

Sorry, it physically clicks but it doesn’t register on the OS.

I have the same problem, I hear a physical click, but nothing registers in the OS (Debian 12). Also, the left/right division is not at 50%, I have to click very far to the right to generate a right-click.

It’s probably the rightmost 1/3; it might be divided into 3 sections (left, middle, right). That’s how it is in libinput, at least. If your desktop environment uses libinput (it should) then it’s not configurable I believe.

Are there specific areas which consistently don’t work, or does it seem like it’s random all the time?

It seems to be inconsistent. If I click on the same area a few times the click will eventually register.

Mine was getting stuck repeatedly. I followed this guide and it’s been fine since then. Maybe something to try.

It hasn’t been getting stuck; when I click I feel it press down but it doesn’t register sometimes.
