WiFi - virtual adapter

Hello, I have just bought a Framework AMD DIY laptop. I have installed Windows 11 pro. This works fine but I have a WiFi- issue. I can’t get a connection. Windows says something about connected to a virtual networkadapter.
I have installed the driver bundle “…driver_bundle_W11_2024_04_02” and rebooted several times. How can I fix this.
Thanks, Sjoerd

it seems like the driver may not have installed correctly if it isn’t seeing your wifi card. I would try reinstalling the driver bundle, and if that doesn’t work you may also want to contact support to see if they can offer any help.

Thank you. I’ve tried installing the drivers several times and rebooting. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem. I don’t know where I can find the installed driver so I can’t point out the installed drivers.
I will also contact support. Hope they can fix this. Anymore with this problem?

Hi, I’m having the same issue, did they already get back to you with a solution?

Hi, they asked a lot of questions but did not provide a solution yet. I will post it here if there is a solution.

Ok, thank you.
In the instructions was a commentary, maybe its helpful for you, didnt help me though, because i dont have ethernet stick etc. I hope it still makes sense, the website translated it to german automatically an i just ran it through Deepl:
I have a laptop 13 DIY with AMD. It was delivered with BIOS 3.03. The installation program for Windows 11 23H2 does not include drivers for the included RZ616 WLAN adapter. Using Rufus, I was able to install Windows 11 without an internet connection, but the result seemed somewhat unstable, even after I later installed the AMD driver package. I tried again from the beginning with a wired internet connection via the Ethernet “expansion card” and the result seemed much better. Presumably you could also use any USB to Ethernet adapter that doesn’t require drivers in Windows 11. Since then I have updated everything, including all the optional driver updates under the advanced options in Windows Update. The result has always been good and stable, especially after I updated beyond BIOS 3.03 (3.03b and now 3.05). Just take all this at face value - the experience of a user setting up a laptop once.

Hi,
I used an antenna to provide a connection and with wifi connection the installation of the drivers actually worked, and now the network adapters are doing what they’re supposed to do.

Hi,

Which drivers did you install? The drivers from the Framework website: [Unified AMD Ryzen 7040 Series Driver Bundle 2024-04-02 ] or other drivers?

I had the same experience exactly. The best way to install Windows seemed to be with an Internet connection. It seemed a little bit unstable when installed without Internet. (This was Windows 11 23H2 Pro). The remaining very slight instability was fixed after updating the BIOS to 3.03b or later.

Yes, just the bundle and the Update.

@Brian, the problem is that I can’t establish an internet connection. I still haven’t got a solution from Frame.Work. Could it be a faulty WiFi card? It’s a Mediatek RZ616. Framework suggested to download a new driver from Microsoft Update Catalog but I don’t know how to install this.

hi,
i think the only solution is to establish a connection via antenna or cable and the install the drivers.

The RZ616 drivers on Microsoft Update Catalog seem to be a CAB file, which is a similar thing to a ZIP file. It looks like you would need to extract the contents of the CAB file to somewhere convenient and then point Device Manager to that place and tell it to update the driver, or maybe just to search for any new drivers that are in that place.

But if that’s going to work, one would think that just getting Windows to search Windows Update ought to make them visible as optional updates under Windows Update Advanced options.

So maybe the RZ616, or what it connects to on the motherboard is broken in some way.

There have been reports of the download being corrupt for some people.
So, make sure you have checked the sha256 checksum matches.
When installing the driver, it should open a command window and say things like "installing 1 of 8
Installing 2 of 8
Etc.
Another option is have you accidentally press F10 and put it in airplane mode?

Hi, there. My problem is solved! I have installed windows completely again according to the manuals from Framework and then ran the updates, the drivers Framework suggested. Miracously this did what is supposed to do. It only cost a new Windows-licenase. So I end this topic. Thanks for your help.

You should be able to reuse your licence key – it’s the same computer, and the licence servers should be able to tell that it is.
