I know this is probably not the best place to ask this since this is a community forum and all that, but will Framework be offering an AI Max+ 388 variant of it’s desktop? I could really use the better iGPU but have no real use for the extra cores or memory that either of the Max+ 395 variants offer.
I would vote for that. If a 388 existed and priced correctly, then that would finally push me over the wall to order a framework desktop. I currently have a 13 laptop.
Personally I think the AI Max+ 388 would make an awesome living room gaming device. As the 388 is likely a drop in replacement for the 385 I think this is a bit of a no-brainer…
It would also be interesting to hear if 48GB RAM would be an option on these boards. Just to give a little extra headroom for the GPU.
Variants of the 388 would have been really close to perfect for a lot of use cases you would expect to see for casual users of the desktop, especially if there had been a 32 and 48 gb variant.
When my desktop died I was doing serious research on the 388 chip to see if anyone had actually successfully brought it to market, and I could only find a demo 13 inch art laptop by asus so I wouldn’t be surprised if the 388 chip supply hasn’t really ramped up and been well integrated by anyone.
After-all, there was that 4 month ish window about a year ago where really just a small handful of asus computers were used to test the first batch of Strix halo chips. My motto for all the modern chipsets I researched after my last computer died went like this.
“Man this would be really cool to have, sadly it isn’t real yet.” (Real as in, real for us people looking to have options to access it outside of single demo pieces.)
