10g upgrade possible?

While 5g Ethernet is great and much better than the default 1g on most devices; my NAS supports 10g and i’d quite like a full speed connection without having to buy a thunderbolt adapter. Is there any chance the Ethernet module is upgradable?

I see USB4 to ethernet 10G device on the internet. If you build the computer yourself, you can use a PCIe riser, using a m.2 slot or the PCIe slot to get a x16 slot (because ethernet card usually use x8 slot). If the card is PCIe3 (usually the case), in theory, you can get 32 G bandwidth, double that with PCIe4 card with that configuration.

Only the HP Z2 G1a comes with optional 10 GbE out of all the Strix Halo devices as far as I know. USB4 or TB to 10 GbE is the easiest solution.

I’m not happy with it either, gross oversight IMO.

most only use 4x pcie gen3 https://www.amazon.fr/TP-Link-TX401-Ethernet-ultra-faible-Compatible/dp/B08GFGG888

but if you want to connect 2 (or more) FrameWork the simple is USB4 <=> USB4 , because there is 2 USB4 @ 40Gbits you can have a chaine for connect 1 <=> 2 <=> 3 … <=> N <=> 1

A half height aquantia 10gbit nic in the pcie x4 slot should do the trick. The acq 113 can saturate 10gbit over 1 lane of pcie4 or 2 lanes of pcie3.

Some Example with the AQC 107:

Might as well go with the newer 113, there is pretty much no price difference any more.

The asus 10gbit card quietly changed to the 113, running one in my pc in a pcie4x1 slot and it works very well. Would be nice if it wasn’t red but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose.

I put Intel X550’s in x4 slots, they are PCIe 3.0 and have enough bandwidth to service two 10gbE SFP+ or RJ45 connectors. They’re also being retired out of enterprise kit and are reasonably cheap refurbished or second hand.

K3n.

I’m not sure whether a pcie card can be used to add a 10Gbps port - let alone any port - on the Framework Desktop, because the current model does not have an opening on the back of the case where the pcie slot is. There’s a discussion about this in the following forum:
Request: Case Opening for PCIe Card - Framework Desktop - Framework Community

Yes, you need to buy the Motherbord and use other case.

(simple exemple, It have back open for simple SSD access ..)

Most of the semi modern ones should be small enough to fit without an open ended slot or open ended case.

I guess if you wanted to use a 20$ aliexpress special x540 you would need to saw off a bit of the pcie connector but even that would likely work just fine XD.
