These are basically like new condition. I technically used them, but only briefly (~1 day), because I did not prefer them to the old hinges in terms of their design.
Hi all, I just got an awesome Framework 13 with the old hindges which are a little loose. Is there by any chance anyone else who has an extra pair of hindges.
I’ve just upgraded to the 4.0kg from the original 3.3 and the new hinges are very stiff. One-handed opening is a lot more difficult, but not impossible.
On the plus side, the whole laptop feels more rigid, especially when I walk around with it, and I have a much better range of screen angles. There’s also little to no resonance while typing.
My old hinges were very floppy and I like the new feel, but it’s a matter of personal taste.
I’m not sure I would recommend this. If the hinge strength is not the same, you put unnecessary forces on your lid and the base via where the hinges mount. Will it ever amount to anything? I don’t know. Just saying that from phsyics perspective it would be an imbalance.
I don’t think this makes any difference to the forces on the lid and the base compared to having the same strength on both sides.
The one side gets the force of the stronger hinge, the other of the weaker … if you mix it.
When you don’t mix hinges, you get either one or the other to both sides. But it stays the same depending on the hinge strength.
yes, it’s an imbalance, but compared to not mixed it’s basically the same on each side.
(I hope I wrote that understandable, English isn’t my main language)
I actually didn’t go with the mix-and-match in the end. The 4kg hinges were very stiff to start with, but got a little looser (or maybe I got used to them) and I’m very happy with them. No more floppy hinge and no more screen wobble either.
