4k 60fps video playback issues on 11th gen with linux

I have 11gen laptop with 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz
Trying to edit 4k 60fps video I took on my phone but I am having trouble even playing it

I tried to open it with a VLC player, and it plays like on a computer from 90th : intel_gpu_top shows around 50% Render/3D, CPU usage for vlc (user space) is hitting 200-300% . Other players are not better

most video editing software can’t handle this video either. Also CPU fan works like crazy when my system tries to play this video

and there is no issue playing hi res videos in FF/youtube

am I’m missing some critical configuration?

here is video info I’m trying to play

this video is lower quality than mine, but my laptop is having trouble playing it smoothly as well Downloads Page - Demolandia

You might have some luck swapping the stock codecs for those found on rpmfusion if you haven’t done so already…

https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Multimedia

Due to differences in licensing and (possibly even some closed source) these do not ship with Fedora (because of the philosophy as to what does or does not get packaged “officially”).

Don´t forget your cpu has to do on the fly down-scaling from 4k 60fps to 2K.
HiRes videos on Youtube adapt to your physical screen resolution. Worst case, upscaling which is quite easily done.

I have those non free installed , but maybe they conflict with some others

I managed to make this sample video work in vlc , but my original video which is higher quality still choppy

As workaround, I’m modifying those videos on my phone

How much RAM you have on your Laptop? That will also count.
