About the Framework Desktop category

Discuss the Framework Desktop, a Mini-ITX desktop powered by AMD’s massive new Ryzen AI Max processors.

OMG this is exactly what i been looking for! Such a awesome ITX. Love this. Design and look is just fantastic. Would have loved to see 2 RJ45 for using this as a NAS server
But see there is a slot free so maybe it can be used for a card. Also great you can select noctua fan. They are the best.
Also being able to configure with more memory. Just fantastic that you allow to configure so much.

Only concern is how well does it work with linux ? have you guys tested it?

Wanted to pre-order but the order page is somewhat wrong.

You see here the deposit is 1000 kr (Swedish Krona) = about 100 dollar
But when i go to the payment it wants to charge 1000 USD which is 10 times more than it should. Can you please fix this?

This ticks nearly all the boxes I’ve had for a portable-ish system I’ve been seeking to fill in the gap between hastily purchased crappy laptop and huge workstation/mounted server. But:

  • That close-ended PCIe × 4 slot limits what kind of AICs can be inserted and the case doesn’t even accommodate an AIC. So opted to pre-order the mainboard only and plan to run it via a PCIe 4.0 redriver AIC to a PCIe riser that can accommodate PCIe × 16 AICs.
  • No ECC memory for other things I’d want to use it for, but it’s not needed anyway for its primary purpose. Otherwise it could be eventually upcycled for workstation/server uses.

What do the SoC thermals look like with cooler master cooler , with AI workloads we will hit the max 120W tdp often I think (especially at training) . So under consistent 120W what do the thermals look like ?
