AMD 13 eGPU Issues After Upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

I upgraded my Framework 13 AMD laptop from Ubuntu 23.10 → 24.04. I WFH and use the laptop connected to a Razer Chroma eGPU enclosure. When booting the laptop connected to the eGPU, I’m getting the following error:

watchdog: Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu 14
Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty

The laptop just hangs there and BusyBox v1.36.1 launches. When not connected to the eGPU, the laptop boots normally. Anyone else having a similar issue or has seen this before? I’m trying to avoid the slight inconvienence of reinstalling…

Welcome to the forums!

I haven’t upgraded (my other machines) to 24.04 yet, specifically because Canonical themselves say that there will be problems if you upgrade to it. I suspect this is one of those problems. Installing from scratch is supposed to avoid them.

That said, I finally got my Framework 16 a little after 24.04 was released, and installed that version from scratch on it. I’ve had no noticeable issues with it. I don’t have an eGPU, or even the optional discrete GPU that Framework offers for it, though.

fair enough! I’ll reinstall - I knew what I was getting into when I hit the upgrade button
