I don’t mind pre-orders as long as they don’t end up as a waiting queue with no general availability by the end of the year. I see them as a luxury premiere while they turned into a socialist dystopia of artificial scarcity. If you told me in 2019 I would be waiting for a year to get a new processor I would laugh. And looking at the history of announcements and GA in the past they used to be in the span of 3-4 months max. It’s simply dystopian no matter what the explanation.
Well its Q4 now, can batch 2 and all the other batches get an updated timeline for delivery? Its still says late Q3 for all the rest of us. Not asking for a date or demanding to know when they get delivered or anything but since it is technically now past Q3, just wanting to get the timelines updated to more current guesstimates by the framework folks based on their judgement from the rate of progress. Thank you.
Unsure what you mean by this. Are you saying it is standard to take 2 years for a pre-order to be filled? That is not my experience at all. In fact my pre-orders have nearly all been early or as expected as a rule.
I’m pretty sure he’s saying that for the last two years it has been typical for a new product to launch with a pre-order.
Looks like one of the first reviews of the amd 13 is out. https://youtu.be/k6aDBetYP5c?si=cmAUSfy1H40k9rKM.
For anyone following this thread who may have missed Framework’s email update from today:
You may have seen press reviews start to go live for Framework Laptop 13 (Ryzen 7040 Series), so we wanted to give you the latest information on your pre-order. We’re starting Batch 1 shipments shortly. We have material ready at the factory to begin production of Batch 2 and 3 Mainboards for use in both laptop production and Mainboard pre-orders. We expect to start the SMT (board assembly) process next week. For final assembly into laptops and pack out, we currently plan to align that to factory-readiness of our next BIOS version, 3.0.3, with shipments starting later in October. This includes a fix from AMD to resolve a regression in Linux support that was introduced in 3.0.2.
Sounds like batch 2 might be getting shipments by the end of the month!
Hang in there folks!
Customers in Batch 1 are starting to receive their orders, so hopefully yours will be on the way soon
batch 2 bros in my thoughts and prayers
Can’t wait, my current laptop is not happy right now, and is starting to make weird noises, my framework can’t come soon enough lol
Same situation! I’ve been suffering along on a first gen Microsoft Surface Book that is now constantly losing connection to the base, has major cooling issues, and sputtering CPU performance. Super excited to play with a modern mobile chipset in a less… experimental (?) form factor again.
I’m starting to think that my Batch (7) is gonna arrive only next year…
More units from Batch 1 arriving this week! To help you pass the time

I am using my birthday wish this year for my DIY laptop to be delivered before I take my trip on the 2nd week of November. It seems like if it does show up it’s going to be really close, I will assemble it in the airport if I have to.
If that has to happen, please post photos!
we’re well into batch 1 by now. according to community polls about half of batch 1 has been charged, and about 1/3 has received a shipping notification. and i assume there are going to be quite a few people who voted in that poll a few days ago, but forgot to update their answer - so it should be safe to say more than 50% of batch 1 has been charged - and it’s barely been a week.
i think it’s safe to say that batch 2 should be completed by the 2nd week of Nov (5 weeks out).
Surprised by the BYO charger and internal storage numbers. What is everyone using there?
I got a pair of these jobbies from Monoprice for charging. I like the extra ports, my Microsoft bricks all had an extra USB-A which I utilized all the time so I decided on these rather than the Framework brick.

For storage I went with a 512GB Solidigm P44. I’ve had good experience with Intel/Solidigm and I like what they’re doing on the software side.
looking at some other posted purchase dates, seems I only just slipped from batch 1 to 2… hopefully that means I’ll be near the start of the shipping queue for 2. Especially as my old T480s is starting to throw tantrums (think it might have seen the emails from Framework).
i went with a anker 67w charger. 2 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port (ideally they would all be USB-C but whatever). snagged it for $38 on sale, and it’s quite compact.
i know some people said they were going with Ugreen chargers, and other people said they were going with the good ole Lenovo USB-C power brick.
like you, i went with a solidigm p44 pro (1TB). not too pricey - and it is best in class for power efficiency (and performance is top tier). only the lexar nm790 beats it (and the samsung 990 pro comes close).
It will be close for sure. If mine ships by the 31st I should have it before I leave, fingers crossed.
When did you place your order? I got my order in on March 29th so I wonder where that puts me.
