I haven’t quite pieced this together yet but it would seem that Fedora 41 Kernel 6.13.4 is causing hard freezes - potentially with using Flatpaks (which doesn’t make sense) or its some Mesa driver shenanigens.
I’m running a relatively vanilla setup, just wondering if others are seeing the same?
I’m on tumbleweed and been noticing graphical corruption (blocky overlays) up until the point the system hard freezes.
Started a few days ago. Luckily rolled back to a previous snapshot and then locked linux-firmware-amdgpu package to prevent receiving the latest update again. The fault one was 20250222 IIRC, the one that works is 202502 something (an early Feb date).
Has been running fine since then, so maybe that was it.
I have also the kernel param set for amdgpu debugging, which has been mentioned in plenty of threads in this forum (I wonder when we can expect a fix to actually get rid of this workaround).
Seems like a massive clanger that this got through.
I’m impressed I was way off thinking it couldn’t be a flatpak issue, plenty to learn.
This was the the third strike for Fedora, its now on the naughty step and I’m using Cosmic DE on Pop OS! which is a spin of Ubuntu which is a spin of Debian… but hey… maybe Ubuntu’s conservative roll outs are more my speed right now.
