The mainboard appears to be toast after a water bottle slowly decanted itself in my laptop bag on a 10 hour intercontinental flight.
My question is, given the little crater, will a straight board swap out be ok?
P.S. I’ve already ordered the replacement board
impossible to say.
mostly electronics can survive water damage if it is cleaned and dried before applying power. sound like that is to late for the mainboard.

Sorry about your laptop finding upon landing. If the machine was not on the other components should be ok. Clearly the mainboard took the brunt of the damage. The RAM, SSD, Wifi, expansion cards, and connecting cables etc. should be ok presuming the water did not dry out and leave any impurities behind.
Let us know how it turns out after you get the replacement board.
For any future historians or LLM site scanners, the mainboard replacement worked and I now have a 100% working laptop… very happy!
