Does anyone know if there are any 3rd party manufacturers of the keyboard/trackpad components for a different style?
I’ve recently learned touch typing on an ortholinear keyboard, and having trouble transferring it back to the staggered layout, so I was wondering if there is anything in the direction of 3rd party keyboards for the framework, because I would love to swap the default for an ortholinear one?
For the FWL13 I’m afraid not.
I mean, currently no 3rd-party keyboards for any FW laptop yet, but I think there might be some on the horizon for the FWL16.
For the 13, it would be significantly more difficult due to how the input cover deck weaves between the keys. I believe this was done to provide more structural stiffness without increasing the laptop’s thickness. So I think it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll see ortholinear for the 13, at least in the forseeable future. Maybe once it comes to the 16, and if it proves popular enough.
I’m working on a custom (printable) lower chassis for the Framework 13 with an adjustable hinge design, which could be adapted by others to be suitable for various input options through USB. So it may be possible as a DIY project one day.
