Audio Expansion Card - how to configure for stereo line-in?

How do I configure the audio card for stereo line-in? If I recall, Nirav Patel said this can be done on the first video debut of the FW16 on LTT.

I see “Analog Output - Audio Expansion Card” in Gnome Sound Output drop down, but not in the Input section.

Does this only show up in Windows 11?

Edit: Booted into Win 11 and I also don’t see it show up as an input, only for output.

FYI: In both OS, I have the audio output set to the Realtek speaker output, not the audio expansion card.

I have an audio source connected and playing, so a signal is actively being pushed in, but it still sees it as an output.

Just an idea (and not knowing what OS/sound server you are using): In case you use pipewire, maybe qpwgraph can help to identify and map the audio expansion card.

Someone has asked about stereo input here
[RESPONDED] How can I use the new Audio Expansion Card for Stereo-Line-In?
it seems to be just standard stereo output + mono mic for headsets, as are found on other laptops and cell phones.

That’s unfortunate. I felt lied to then. I recall Nirav or Linus (he asked and Nirav confirmed) saying you can have multiple of these and configure for 5.1 surround or set some as stereo line-in.

So external sound card is required if we want a line-in?

FYI, I’m on Fedora 41 (Gnome).

Might want to find the video promising this before feeling lied to. He may have said it could be possible rather than saying it absolutely will.

The specs on the audio card say nothing about stereo input.

Yes. In the thread I linked I believe there are suggestions for sound cards for stereo audio capture.

I was mistaken. I guess can be configured for surround sound. Oh well.

Hopefully they make an input card as well - I really want a quick and dirty stereo capture without needing to carry another device.

So good to know, thanks.
