Batch 2 - Intel 12th - Guild

I found it to be minimalist - clean, simple, stable. There’s pretty much just one intuitive way to do everything. Customization is there when I want it but I didn’t feel overwhelmed by many different ways to change the theme or color scheme for example.

I’ve mostly used Ubuntu, or some derivative, with Elementary being my favorite for its clean, simple consistent UI. The future of Elementary is uncertain and I just didn’t like Ubuntu Budgie. Framework is well supported in Fedora so I tried something new and I’m really pleased with it

Finally! Can’t believe it’s real xD

My first impressions are really good. More than I’ve expected. It seems like everything is working just fine. Heat, battery etc. will be tested over a bigger time frame obviously. Only downside so far is that the display actually is a straight up mirror. It’s fine for light mode applications but once you get some darker colors in, you will see yourself. But that’s a minor downside for me and in worst case I’ll get a matte screen protector

The inital boot up from pressing the power button to seeing the Framework logo took 37 seconds. Just leaving this here as some people talked about it.

So far I’m impressed too. It’s incredibly fast, keyboard and trackpad are great, everything is smooth. Fingerprint reader works great in Fedora.

The screen is very reflective. Mine has some slight damage, or possibly a defect and it’s been really difficult to get a picture to share with support. There’s a blue mark on the screen that’s only visible on dark backgrounds. I guess I’ll see how repairable these things are after all

And… It’s here! Ordered June 17, shipped on 8th of September, delivered today in the morning, September 13, 3 days earlier than estimated by FedEx.

Also got a bunch of fishing emails pretending that I missed the delivery roughly around the same time frame, so be careful with posting personal info like that. Luckily one of the days when “delivery failed”, I’ve been at home the whole day, so that was obviously a scam.

It arrived to my family member. Now we just have to ship it to here

Hey there, I’m still waiting for a mail for my order of my 1260p framework DIY edition (ordered on July 18th) since I’m still on stage 2. The last update mail said they would pack out all orders by the end of last week and “ship units out as early as possible after that”, whatever that means. I really need my framework by the end of the month, how likely is that in your opinion? I live in Germany by the way.

Sorry to hear. I’m not sure of the answer to your question but I ordered a 1260p DIY almost a month before you (19th June) to the UK and I’m also still on stage 2. I think there are a couple of Dutch guys on here who ordered even earlier than I did who are still waiting too :frowning:

They did say in the latest update email that some of the order assemblies might “slip into” the following week after the national holiday in Taiwan (which was last week). Not sure what the exact definition of “slip into” would be lol but to me I would assume that means early the following week. Since it’s Wednesday tomorrow it will be a bit disappointing if those of us still waiting don’t hear something by then.

Alright, at least I am not alone
They also wrote that if any of the mentioned timing changes, they will inform us. So I really hope we get that stage 3 email soon…

Yeah you’re definitely not alone, if we don’t get any update within the next couple days I’m gonna start spamming support for updates. But… on the positive side! I’ve never been so up to date with my email. Still checking over twice an hour.

Same Here. I’m also from Germany and I ordered at the beginning of June. But I ordered a prebuilt 1260p. I’m also at stage 2 and I got the same mail as you. I’m also hoping to hear something from FW today.
I’m positive to get my FW this month.
You are not alone.

Greetings

Felix

My daughter and I had a great time putting the DIY Framework together. I enjoyed it so much I wrote a blog post about it (blog link is in my profile if you’re interested). I’ve been using it a couple of days now and while I haven’t timed the battery life, I find that I just don’t think about it. I haven’t done anything to really stress the system other than a couple of small code compile jobs.

I’m still waiting on @FrameworkSupport to respond about my screen defect (photo attached). Hopefully it won’t take as long to get a replacement as it did to get the laptop.

Just to provide a follow up. First and foremost, I’m still loving this laptop. The size, weight and performance for my daily workload are excellent. Under my normal use, I rarely here the fan. It seems to ramp up during patching and software installs, but otherwise I don’t notice it.

I’m still monitoring battery. I use it plugged in more than I use it on the go, so we’ll see.

I’ve also not updated the spreadsheet, because there is still nothing to update… Took a break from checking in here for a few days, felt healthier.

1260 DIY in the Netherlands, ordered June 6

Anyone on continental Europe got their 1260 so far?

Received my barebones DIY laptop on Monday, a whole week early! Installing RAM and SSD took literally less than 5 minutes, windows 11 install took an additional 5 minutes if that. Had some touchpad issues (1 finger recognition only) until I found the driver bundle online. Still had the same issue, then I realized there’s a separate driver bundle for 12th gen  Oops!

And now I can put this bookmarked thread to sleep :’) good luck everyone!

I ordered a 1260 DIY on the 25th June. Still at step 2. I’m in the UK. Fingers crossed step 3 email sometime this week. Looks like the 1260 European machines are the last to ship in this batch.

Update: An hour after posting the above, payment taken and I’m up to step 4!

Sure you don’t mean step 4 (that is the step where they charge your credit card, step 5 is the shipment notification which contains the tracking number)? I got my step 4 notification too 20 minutes ago (1260p DIY Germany, ordered on 18th July), but no tracking number yet.

Yes, sorry, step 4. Updated my post.
