I can turn on/off a lot of things on the FW16 in the BIOS/UEFI, but the microphone doesn’t have a disable option and I’d like to see it in the future.
I know the hardware switch disables the microphone elements but it still shows up in Device Manager, and some places I go would like to see the BIOS disable. I’ve been getting around them by flat removing the microphone/webcam module as that’s fairly quick, but I’d like to save myself the time and potential screen scratches of pulling up the bezel so frequently.
When you disable the microphone via the kill switch it still shows up in device manager? As in you enable the kill switch while the machine is powered off, and then you power on the machine?
If the machine is already running, have you opened up the sound mixer and tried to configure the microphone?
The hardware kill switch is a physical disable switch. It severs the power from being able to get to the microphone. There is no surer way of disabling a microphone other than destroying it.
I’m not sure there is any value in adding this to the BIOS.
It’s the first gen module, but the camera isn’t the issue it is the microphone that doesn’t have a BIOS level disable and even with the switch off shows up in Device Manager.
Ok. Yes, indeed, I don’t think that the switch design change applies to the mic as well.
My confusion come from that the camera and the mic use the same kind of switch.
And if yours is 1st gen, in any case it eliminates the possibility.
Not sure but I think that the mic use the same hardware as the sound and is from the APU. It may not be possible to disable it without disable output sound…
