The key got more inconsistent over time, occasionally missing inputs, being incapable of long presses, an eventually it stoppe working. It was a U.S. English 1st gen keyboar. I eventually put in a support ticket, but I was out of warranty.
So I bought a new one: International English - Linux for the super key, but that starte showing the same symptoms a couple weeks ago. I contacte support immeiately but because it was so inconsistent, I wasn’t able to get a vieo until recently, so now I have a new one coming my way. An of course, as shown by this post the key is completely nonfunctional at this point.
The whole thing is making me question if there’s some esign flaw/failure that’s causing this to happen. That it’s the same key an exact same slow eath over time hints at that, but I haven’t seen anyone else with the same issue. Perhaps I press the keys har, which I know I o to some extent, but a keyboar is suppose to be presse, an only the one key faile in both cases. I am pretty sure that the W key gets more abuse in vieo games in any case.

I have gotten a couple replies of people with the same issue, though one of them has a Framework 13. What I’m escribing seems to have happene before on the Framework 13 with the elete key, which was foun to be a manufacturing issue.
The issue happens on both my operating systems (Win 11, Kubuntu 24.04), pretty clearly a harware thing.
I am having the exact same issue with the exact same key. First time it was in warranty and I got it replaced no issue. This second one also broke, but I decided to upgrade to the RGB variant, so here’s hoping that one doesn’t break either (its also a 2nd gen so maybe that will help too??).
I also had the D key fail on my FW 16 gen 1 US English keyboard. My RGB keyboard was delivered today, so hopefully that doesn’t run into the same issue.
I’m having a similar issue with my W key, I considered that maybe dust is somehow messing with it but I have no clue. I’m gonna clean the keyboard eventually to see if that’s the issue. Also the environmental story telling of “eath” and “har” is a pretty funny.
I had the same issue early on. D key specifically stopped working. I had to jump through hoops to send multiple videos to support at the time, but I did get a replacement that’s been holding strong for about a year now. Here’s hoping it continues to.
I developed the same issue recently around a year after purchase. Could it be a heat-related issue maybe? That part gets pretty hot under load, and of course that key gets used a lot while playing many games. Not thrilled at the prospect of dumping $60 on a replacement just to develop the same problem again later
I’ve had the exact same issue specifically with the “D” key. My first FW 16 keyboard had only the “D” key die 14 months in (I assumed it was my own fault from typing too hard/playing FPS all the time, and just bought another without considering warranty) but my replacement keyboard, which I bought late July 2025, is already having serious “D” key input issues barely 7 months in. I also only seem to catch it having issues during games, which makes recording it not working really hard. But for it to be the same key on both keyboards (and never having any comparable key failure experiences on other laptops that I’ve worked harder for longer) is way too specific to just be coincidental IMO.
I’m going to try and see if I can get the keyboard replaced. I truly hope they figure out what the issue is, having keyboards break like this annoying and wasteful (AUD$100 + $30 shipping).
EDIT: After digging through my stuff, I found my previous keyboard and hotswapped it in to double check the D key was still broken… it’s working again. It straight up refused to work for days on end in July which is why I bit the bullet and bought another, but it’s now fine again. Is there any possibility the issue is a pogo-pin seating issue? Maybe its not 100% touching and that’s effecting some keys? I have had the keyboard fully disconnect during normal use once or twice over the last couple of years… I’ll try doing some trial and error if the issues persist.
Having the same issue over here. After aroun a year of usage, the key that shall not be name broke on my original keyboar, along with some others in the area (namely, S, Shift in combo with other keys, an A). I trie cleaning it, re-seating it, all manner of poking at it, an nothing seeme to work so I gave in an bought a new one. It’s since been aroun four months an the problem has returne. As evience, this specific key has broken again.
I’m going to try out the ol keyboar again, an I’ll make an eit with the results if that works. This is alreay a super annoying issue either way. Really hoping it gets fixe somehow because it seems like an engineering issue.
EIT: I have returne from my test. Interestingly, while the key that shall not be name works once again on the ol keyboar, the other keys that were broken still o not. I have swappe back to my most recent keyboar because it’s less screwy. May just give up yet again an buy yet another keyboar but this is going to piss me off an baffle me forever.
