CPU IOWAIT >= 30% (might also affect battery life)

Which Linux distro are you using?

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Which kernel are you using?

6.11, 6.12, 6.14

Which BIOS version are you using?

Latest

Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

Immediately after the boot I see CPU IOWAIT on idle system is 30% and it’s growing with the time.

The system feels sluggish and at some point of time I can only reboot it, to restore it to the working state.

I used build-in Ubuntu whole disk encryption - the same that used to work just fine on Lenovo x280 with no issues.

Frame.work finally send a replacement - same SanDisk SSD as the one I have in my laptop - I reinstalled the system from scratch and the issue persists.

Any help would be much appreciated. I suspect it might also affect battery / power performance.

Just going on the basics, no particular insight here:

  • Run htop (install if needed) and enable view of kernel threads too (see man page). Anything using a lot of CPU there?

  • Anything interesting in the kernel logs? journalctl -k or journalctl -k -f to watch it in real time.

That looks quiet from my perspective… Or what I call - idle machine.
Nothing interesting in journalctl as well - as of the moment of writing, last message has been like 10 minutes ago on adapting WiFi to the signal/noise.

btw - htop’s kernel threads could be enabled via TUI’s setup.

Unless you see something that I miss here?
