Desktop DIY/Gaming Setups thread

Per the latest blog post about wanting to see setups, I’m creating a thread to show off Gaming/DIY setups. I don’t play a lot of games in the summer time but of the latest round of friend group games I’ve had no issues with (PEAK, REPO, etc.) I don’t really play a lot of triple A or the latest demanding games so I haven’t really stressed my setup. any issues of I’ve had so far have been related to clunkiness of my setup or my arch installation. Since doing a full reinstall of arch, I can’t say I’ve had too many issues that weren’t bad drivers.

My setup is mainly used for hobbyist dev work which requires a VMs with a decent amount of RAM and a lot of threads.

Setup:
Bios: BETA 3.03
Model: Desktop 128GB
Graphics card: Nvidia 5080 FE
storage:
1 NVME Samsung 980 Pro (in Wifi E-Key slot with Adapter)
2 NVME Lexar NM790 in RAID 0

Warning: my setup is not currently supported and if you try and duplicate it, you will have issues. (Mainly with the graphics card)

(Moved to the garage today and took off the side panels because it’s nice out)

What are you using to connect the 5080 to the motherboard? I can just see a little bit of kapton peeking out under the video card in that third pic.

What issues did you encounter, and how did you overcome them?

(Sorry if you already posted that info elsewhere, but I thought it would be helpful for people stumbling across this thread to have it here.)

(Edit: just figured out what I’m looking at in the second pic, your riser/cable can be seen there. I haven’t seen one like that though, I don’t recognize it. -Edit 2: found your picture in the “verify dGPU support” thread. Looks like a Dock-OC4 board connected to some kind of PCIE-to-Oculink adapter?)

A lot of this is explained in the dGPU thread. I would recommend looking there for more details.

While my setup works (mostly) I think if you are wanting to spend money on a desktop and want to use a graphics card with your desktop, you should wait until framework comes out with more compatibility information or an official statement. I’ve done a decent amount of research to get where I’m at and graphics card on fw desktop just isn’t production ready.
