I noticed the front ports of the desktop allow for modularity, however I know many of us who might currently be using desktops often use a large amount of ports at a time. I myself actively use 6 to 7 usb ports on my computer at a time.
Seeing the use of modules on the front and the fact that the desktop would be a set dimension, would it be possible to have a usb hub that the desktop could slide into almost like the stand on the original Wii, I know not everyone would utilize something like this but it would provide a nice docking station for at desk use.
I would love such idea but i think, just buy your favorite usb dock ( just a generic ) or just a usb hub like i did with some mix of usb-c and usb-a ports would be enough for most of the people, as the pc needs to be plugged into a power cord either way, its not THAT portable like a laptop and can be just docked like an old Panasonic rugged.
I would have liked if it had 4 modular slots instead of just 2 but a simple hub works out.
The main idea was that it would utilize the modular slots to expand. Most hubs/docks tend to have more focus on displays and power delivery. I know there are options out there, but in terms of cable management it would be a bit of a hassle to add in a hub.
I guess having a hub where you can attach the modular expansion cards as the 2 are nice but i would love to have like a hub for those to extend 1 to like 4 or even 6 slots.
I understand the possible reduced bandwidth, but that is an issue with ALL hubs, but i would rather have more slots.
Edit: After research i understand some cards need special configured ports as those arent “default” USB-C ports that can easily extended with an USB-Hub.
After reading the initial post I was thinking, “why not just use the ones on the back?” After reading the rest of this thread I decided to see what it had. I can see why this would be an issue now.
Two USB-A ports and two USB-C for a total of four USB ports on the back and 6 total USB ports. For a desktop!? Giving a closer look those USB-C ports on the back are between HDMI and DP so they’re likely for displays (Virtual Link anyone? lol). I personally don’t use a lot of USB ports (mouse, keyboard, possibly an external drive, and occasionally a thumb drive), but I’m positive that wouldn’t be enough for some users.
That is a mandatory part of USB4. So yes.
Also, they are USB4 ports from the AMD CPU. We know most of the features of that, because all AMD CPUs with integrated USB4 controllers had them already.
Those ports will do what the USB4 port on the FW13 AMD’s did. Only, they support higher DP speeds (in DP Alt mode) then AMD has so far.
