Desktop Typical Power Consumption Observations

I think they are very loosely repinterpreting Standby as “behavior of a smartphone when the screen is off but is ready to use on short notice” - it’s not what Standby on a PC ever was, and the options in the UI actually all name it “Sleep” which is definitely wrong.

Basically you need to check with “powercfg -a” to see if Sleep actually sleeps or does not - as a guideline, anything that says S0 is a full active state.

I would be less infuriated if they wouldn’t have also forced plattform developers to remove support for S3 with the tried and true “do as we say or you’ll not get Windows Logo certification”.

Also if anyone has the issue that after a longer time of absence the Desktop has rebootet for no apparent reason even though sleep timeout has been disabled in the active power plan, force disabling that S0 Low Power Idle also helps with that.

reg add HKLM\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

And as a bonus that also removes all the misleading “Sleep” entries in the UI.

Modern standby on Windows is a joke.

s2idle(which is S0ix which is NOT S2)on Linux, although not as efficient as S3(suspend to RAM, [deep]), saves much power than Windows.
