I am thinking about buying a Ugreen charger instead of the Framework charger for my beautiful sage Laptop 12. My question is, am I going to miss the grounding? Is it necessary?
(I don’t have grounding in the sockets in my computer room anyways, so it is more like a theoretical question)
You should be fine without the ground. My main concern was about the power capacity and so I looked at the FW power adapter I have in my office. It is rated up to 60W (20V/3A) or 15V/3A, 9V/3A & 5V/3A. Looks like that UGREEN is capable of all of those modes (plus rated at 65W max).
I tested 6 or 8 different chargers with my FW 12, and only a couple of them have a ground conductor on the plug. All worked fine. A grounded power supply can provide certain benefits, but it isn’t necessary.
Thanks everyone! You are completely right, there was already a topic like this, and I have read it (although I forgot it since). How do I know? Because reading EVERYTHING in this forum is the only way to keep me entertained while waiting for my batch 7 laptop
With the 12 being mostly plastic outside you do loose a lot of the perceivable benefit of a grounded psu.
Both UL and CE have maximum leakage current rating that are safe but they are also way above perceptible for most people, so if you get a psu with safety certification it likely won’t kill you but with metal cased laptops some may cause discomfort (I do know someone that actually enjoys the sensation). With a plastic shelled laptop that is not really a problem.
