I am running windows 11 with the most recent bios and drivers provided by framework. My laptop is configured with a ryzen 7 7840hs and the 7700s. I noticed recently that my CPU was not boosting up to 4GHz when under any load. Additionally whenever i play any game whatsoever (Factorio, Satisfactory, Minecraft) my cpu frequency drops to .55 Ghz for no reason. I am plugged in and it is not thermally related as this happens the INSTNAT the game is launched.
Also another weird behavior with Factorio is whenever the game is focuses, the above mentioned CPU issue happens, but when i open a new window (not full screened) the FPS and cpu frequency of Factorio increase.
Ive already reinstalled the drivers and bios and reset the bios to default settings but nothing works. I was able to play all the above games at 60+ fps before but i do not know what changed
Which bios version exactly? Framework have released a couple alpha/beta bios versions recently that cause issues like this to occur more often. The most recent official bios you should be on is still 3.05.
I have the same config as you and have the same issue on the latest “stable” BIOS, 3.05. TheLPeink is right in that (from what I’ve heard) it seems to affect both the 3.06 beta and 3.07 alpha as well. The workaround that has so far been reliable for me is plugging in the 180w charger and hard-resetting the laptop by holding the power button until it restarts. A bit inconvenient, but it does work for me, and hopefully will for you too until a real fix is available.
