I have FW16 with 7700 graphic card module. I have Ubuntu 22.04 installed on it as single OS. I also have Dell U4025QW monitor that i’m trying to connect to FW16.
Something is wrong and i cannot get anything on the external monitor. The “Display Settings” of Ubuntu show the monitor as connected but i see nothing on the external monitor. The external monitor has KVM and i have keyboard/mouse connected that are working on FW16 no video out.
Is my graphic module dead?
How did you connect the monitor?
Also, I use the display configuration to assign a screen to a specific part of the desktop.

I’m connecting the monitor using one of the usb-c adapters attached to the two most top ports. The position is assigned, still no output.
Tried to connect on the back of the graphics module - still no picture.
As you can see, the monitor is listed there and position is assigned, just nothing gets outputted on the external monitor.
Very disappointed with this laptop, such a waste of money.
If you select the monitor, can you chance the refresh rate to 60Hz or so?

The refresh rate of the external monitor is exactly at 60.0 Hz. That is the only value available.
In that case, try connecting the monitor through a HDMI connector using the HDMI extension.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, i do not have an HDMI adapter … I do have an DisplayPort adapter but cannot use it with the laptop because the DisplayPort port of the monitor is occupied by my desktop.
My intention was to use this monitor with my desktop and FW16 - DisplayPort connection to be used by the desktop and the usb-c to be used by the FW16. Both would share set of keyboard, mouse and wired ethernet through the built in KVM switch of the monitor. Now that the monitor is placed permanently, and the wires are laid out and routed neatly, i am not willing to tear down my setup (that works perfectly with my work laptop) just to debug FW16.
At home I have another setup with high end monitor that is connected through CalDigit TS4 docking station. The monitor is connected to the TS4 via USB-C to DisplayPort cable. I unplugged the usb-c side of the cable and plugged it in ports 1 and 2 of FW16 - no picture. Plugged the usb-c side of the cable directly to the graphic module single usb-c port. Still no picture. At this point i am super furious at the laptop. Last thing that i will do is to dig out pure DisplayPort-DisplayPort cable and use the DisplayPort adapter - will see if that works. Not sure if it will change anything about my conclusion of the laptop - i only intended to use the laptop with usb-c connection with both of my home setups. My first setup is impossible to repurpose with DisplayPort due to how nicely is setup and both my desktop and work laptop are working fine the way it is laid out now. My second setup is not so rigid, but then again it will lose its convenience if i keep plugging/unplugging DisplayPort cables/adapters.
I tried a pure DisplayPort - DisplayPort cable using a DisplayPort adapter on the laptop and i managed to get picture on the external monitor (Asus PG42UQ).
This is not acceptable solution to me due to constant reconfiguration of my second setup. Not sure why the USB-C connections are not working with my laptop - which are making my laptop useless.
I wasn’t aware that the usb-c ports on the laptop are video only ports. Which may explain why my first setup with Dell U4025QW through usb-c is not working - through that usb-c video signal is pushed together with keyboard/mouse signals and ethernet as well. Probably the ports cannot handle the bandwith.
Still confused because port 1 and port 4 are supposedly usb4 capable - perhaps not.
The port can handle the bandwidth. It may be that your screen does not support the USB-C display protocol in use.
Check out GPU Expansion Card USB-C Port Specs - #8 by Kyle_Reis - there is quite a discussion bout that.

Thanks @Jorg_Mertin. I just caught up with the discussion and indeed, by AMD, the port 1 and port 4 should be with 40 Gbps bandwidth. I didn’t want to reinstall but now i caved in, backed up and reinstalled 22.04 … Both my setups work now on port 1 and port 4. My setup with Dell U4025QW is limited to 60 Hz refresh and my setup with Asus PG42UQ gets 120 Hz refresh rate. I’m sticking with this install for a while … not updating anything other than security updates.
Different question - do you happen to know why FW16 no longer needs OEM kernels?
Depends on your kernel version. I suppose they have back-ported AMD specific fixes to the existing/used kernels.
