Framework 16 Paint Chipping

Oh wow, thats kinda interesting though. I guess they are under NDA.

However, given that it chips so easily I wonder why you want to keep that secret

I also wonder if the new Framework 16 has the same issue, guess only time will tell.

Anyway, I’m a model painter for hobby, and I mix my own paints (sometimes even synthesizing my own pigments). I’m pretty sure I can nail the color and texture. Lets just say when mine arrives, and it does chip, I’ll let you guys know and make a open source recipe

Maybe not to find the issue and sell a fixed version, I don’t know x)

Joke aside, I was trying to find the paint for 2026 projects  So if you find a near enough paint, I’d be interested to know your black magic x)

When it comes to mixing colors, I just randomly tried stuff for so long that I know exactly what to get when I want a specific color.

As for getting pigments, I just like chemistry too, so I learned a lot of electrolysis which is very useful for getting pigments.

Edit: come to think of it, if it really lets go that easily, I dont think I would want to replicate the paint, rather improve it and make sure it stays longer

I tried some silver touch up paint meant for chrome rims on cars, but it doesn’t stick to the corners well where these chips form. And applying it so it blends with the surface instead of creating a blob is difficult. Any unevenness with the surface is far more noticable than the paint itself not exactly matching.

It’d be really cool if Framework could offer the original paint as purchasable touch-up paint somehow.

This too is part of repair!

That actually makes so much sense to me, I’m surprised it’s not already a thing.

Nice to know my case wasn’t the only thing doing that.

Given that they still only have the one bottom case I’m not optimistic.

Get something to cover it up, I guess.
