I have recently noticed that my Framework 16 seems to not sleep properly as every time I have it sleep while plugged in (if not, it will automatically hibernate), it stays warm the entire time. When I touch the chassis even while it is sleeping, it is always warm to the touch, especially on the bottom of the chassis. This behavior seems unexpected as the laptop should not be doing anything during this time.
It also gets quite hot whenever idling for seemingly no reason. If I leave my computer with only my browser and a code editor (nothing is running on it), the entire computer gets warm, and the bottom gets almost too hot to touch.
Are there any solutions to remedy this? It seems weird and unusual that it would get this hot even while barely running anything.
Are you running Windows? Windows sleep has been broken for years.
Hot while running is normal. The only solution I found is using ectool to let the fans spin, but than they donât spin up when the laptop gets used.
Try using hibernate instead of sleep.
Microsoft changed sleep to be âconnected sleepâ since windows 10 days and Iâve never had a windows machine that correctly powered off since
The thing that concerns me about about it getting hot while running is that the entire chassis is nearly always warm to the touch when it is idling. This seems somewhat unreasonable as I have not have any other laptops heat up to this extent, even other gaming laptops with similar performance levels.
Iâm having the same issue with heat even when idle. I know a computer will always give off a bit of heat, but it really shouldnât be enough to be uncomfortable with it sitting on my lap.
Fresh install of windows 11 24h2 on a fw.laptop 16, amd 7040, 64GB Kingston FURY Impact SO DDR5-5600 C40 DC, 2TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD.
Taskmanager shows nothing specific, cpu load at aroughly 7%
For a 2025 laptop, itâs just not very impressive, if this is âexpectedâ behaviour.
I have a similiar Problem. I donât see the fans of the expansion bay spin on mine, is it the same by you guys? And could there be problems on a dual boot with one of the boots being not supported?
I would recommend trying a stress test to see if your Frameworkâs fans spin up. The fans only activate after reaching a certain temperature, so a stress test should cause them to turn on. If not, you should reach out to Framework Support.
The problem Iâm describing here is mainly that the Framework gets hot even with the fans on after a period of time. This seems abnormal for a laptop of this performance, so Iâm wondering whether there are methods to fix this. It would be nice to have some sort of ability to adjust the fan curves or another method to reduce heat.
