I’m wondering if in the upcoming Framework Desktop if that little x4 slot may support splitting the lanes into 2 separate x2 devices? I’m thinking about purchasing it for travel and for use as my primary computer, and I have 4 different nvme ssds I use for wear distribution and sentimentality reasons. From my understanding this computer hypothetically could fit a total maximum of 4 nvme drives. I think you could remove the wifi card and install an nvme ssd into that with an adapter, and you could install another nvme ssd into the pcie x4 slot, however I am wondering if that single x4 slot could be further bifurcated? For my use case 4 ssds would be enough, however I am wondering if 5 could theoretically be possible. I was considering creating a little pcie card that internally mounted for a single nvme ssd for this computer specifically, however I would also be interested in creating a card that would support 2 nvme drives if the bios supported it. If it did, it would also allow use of 4 ssds and the internal wifi card.
