Yep, we do what we have to do. The good news? Framework is working to make updating the bios on Linux possible. I’m confident they’ll get there.
That’s where the 3rd bios update method comes in, “Linux/Other/UEFI Shell update” in https://knowledgebase.frame.work/en_us/framework-laptop-12-bios-and-driver-releases-13th-gen-intel-core-HyrqeX2ex
I’m using the 4th method:
Wait patiently until LVFS catched up
Because updating UEFI on Linux already is possible,
version 3.04 just hasn’t been uploaded to the LVFS servers yet (at the time of writing*)
Following this link one can see that only ever version 3.03 has been uploaded (at the time of writing*)
*Before some smartass… you get the gist!
The #1 warning I’ve heard before getting my FW12 was that the firmware situation is always a mess, and now the first update that is advertised as “get it via lvfs” on the official website is not actually available in the lvfs, not even at 100% battery.
USB stick update it is…
Was wondering the same. LVFS still on 3.0.3 and I even tried the USB stick method. Downloaded and extracted the ZIP, ran the whole install process, but after reboot I still get Version 3.0.3
Thought I might be doing something wrong? Anybody got it installed on a non-windows machine?
Edit: Somehow the update with the USB stick method worked with the second attempt. Full history of my little adventure here: [SOLVED] Bios upgrade to 3.0.4?
i have upgraded to 3.04 with lvfs (fwupmgr refresh –force
then fwupmgr update
with power plugged in) and it worked flawlessly. i really like the animation, nice touch!
congrats to the team.
Good catch! I see that the BIOS 3.04 has secretly been available on the LVFS page since yesterday, 12th August 2025!
@catastrophic Why there is no official announcement about the Framework Laptop 12 13th Gen Intel BIOS 3.04 unlike other BIOS updates? I think people want to notice that to fix an issue in BIOS 3.03. I also want to subscribe the email notifications about the Framework Laptop 12 BIOS updates. But I forgot where I can do it.
Sorry I noticed that it was missing yesterday.
We actually rolled this bios update into the factory process early on. So only the very first few units have 3.03 and need an upgrade.
