[SOLVED] Bios upgrade to 3.0.4?

Bios update page says the latest version is 3.0.4: Framework Laptop 12 BIOS and Driver Releases (13th Gen Intel® Core™)

Tried updating with fwupd and no update was found. Seems to still be 3.0.3: LVFS: Laptop 12 Intel 13th Gen Core

Downloaded the ZIP from the first link and installed it with a USB stick (EFI shell update). After the update Bios version still shows up as 3.0.3.

Anybody got the same experience? Not sure if I did anything wrong?

Thanks. That’s where I got the LVFS link. I admit that I was too lazy to look up the old thread and started a new one out of convenience. I’ll move my questions there.

Hi Wolfie. I understand you’re having some trouble in updating your BIOs. Just to confirm, so that we can do some testing: You downloaded the BIOS 3.04 (EFI Shell Update) for your Framework 12 laptop and upon running it, it shows ‘completed’ or a similar message? Your BIOS Version / Date still shows as 3.03?

Hi,

I tried it again and this time it worked. Can’t say for sure what went wrong the first time. I’ll try to give you all the steps as far as I can remember (did not pay that close attention with the first try):

  1. Downloaded the Bios ZIP from here: Framework Laptop 12 BIOS and Driver Releases (13th Gen Intel® Core™)
  2. Unzipped and copied files to a fresh Fat32 formatted USB stick
  3. Booted my FW12 while hitting F12
  4. Selected USB stick to boot
  5. Saw the firmware update screen and it ran until the end (pretty sure there was a success message at the end but not 100% sure… also pretty sure I waited until it rebooted itself without hitting any keys)
  6. Rebooted and checked firmware version in command line (Ubuntu 25.04)… still showed 3.0.3
  7. Went to the forums and started the thread
  8. Saw your message and wanted to make sure to give you valuable info
  9. Compared the files I used to a fresh download and they matched
  10. Used the same USB stick again and booted into the firmware upgrade
  11. This time I paid more attention and this time I saw
    1. Progress bar with labels “BIOS: LFR20.03.03 → BIOS: LFR20.03.04)
    2. Also four different steps (checklist) that each got a green checkmark during the update process in the lower right corner. Not 100% sure but I think the labels shown on screen were different the first time.
  12. Waited until success message - this time 100% sure it was there - and waited for auto-reboot
  13. Funnily… did not take out the stick and it started the update again
  14. This time in the lower right corner there was only one single entry
  15. This time the progress bar showed the labels “CSME: 9A9 → CSME 9A9” and also only “CSME: 9A9” in the lower right corner instead of four items
  16. Waited until success message and auto-reboot, this time removing the stick after
  17. After that I checked bios version with dmidecode and showed 3.0.4

I’m pretty sure the very first upgrade attempt looked the same as the third one done by accident. Hope this info makes any sense to you to figure out what might have gone wrong the first time?

This is fantastic info! I’ll make sure this gets in front of the team.
