I noticed that having Framework laptop 12 is not have keyboard with LED lights?
do you mean a keyboard backlight (and not the capslock LED) ?
if so, this is expected, and has been brought up a in a few different threads before:
Yes, keyboard backlight. I was expected FW12 to super powerful as FW16. I better return the FW12.
oh.. no, the FW12 is currently no where near as powerful, expandable, configurable, or expensive, as the FW16, which starts at over twice the price of the FW12.
I do not understand why Framework Team is not making FW 13, FW 16 with touch-screens from starting of their company.
my guess would be cost, targeted use case, and lack of demand. plus, for the FW16, it might be super difficult to design a 360 hinge that accounts for the GPU slotting into the back of the laptop.
How Framework Laptop 13, can be redesign the chassis as similar as Framework Laptop 12?
The FWL13 uses a less common screen ratio. The options for screens are much more limited as a result. There may just be no good option that fits. And having a custom screen manufactured is so expensive that it seems out of reach at this time for Framework.
To be honest, I’m not sure that’s even possible. Without compromises someplace. Every bit more power needs more cooling ability. But laptop cooling fans need intake from the bottom to work best. Moving the intake to the back edge as is done in the FWL12 and other 2-in-1s cuts down it’s cooling ability, I believe a lot. The form factor just does not lend itself to decent cooling, so it also would not lend itself to being super powerful.
Presuming that you’re looking for a 2-in-1 like the FWL12. Where the screen flips around.
this is my assumption as well, the FW12 uses what is essentially the screen from the Lenovo 500e Yoga Chromebook Gen 4, with a slightly different bezel. Being able to re-use an old mass produced display, with just plastics molding costs, must have saved Framework tons of money.
The screen with the rounded corners, right? I forget the device that was originally made for. I thought it was a microsoft device.
If I recall from what they said, it sounded like finding a display already in manufacture wasn’t so much a matter of saving money, rather it just wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Paying for a custom screen to be manufactured being just so expensive that it’s out of reach for Framework at their current scale.
Yes, 2-in-1 like the FWL12. Where the screen flips around. Plus, Touch-screens.
No wonder like so familiar.
I don’t think this can be a realistic guess. The FW12 is advertised as a cheap device for students and kids. It costs less than half the price of the FW16, has a plastic chassis and it’s super condensed in size.
How should this device be as powerful as the FW16?
P.S. don’t want to offend, I am just really confused about it.
