Which Framework laptop are you asking for support with? Framework Laptop 13 DIY Edition AMD Ryzen
Every so often the wifi will drop out, even though other devices are connected to the network just fine. Sometimes the laptop will not recognize any networks at all. It appears to be worse when waking the laptop from sleep, although not always.
I have verified that I have the latest drivers and BIOS installed. I can sometimes fix the issue by turning airplane mode on/off, but most of the time I need to reboot completely. I have also run Windows connectivity troubleshooter and most often, this does not identify any problems, as if there really is no wifi available.
Any help on this issue or where to further investigate would be greatly appreciated.
Same issue as well: FW13 with Ryzen AI 300 running on Fedora Silverblue. Cycling WiFi fixes the issue temporarily, but it happens regularly enough to be irritating.
So that’s it? Very clearly defined, corroborated by multiple people on various distros - 6 months later, no acknowledgement or anything?
“Irritating” is being far too kind. I dread when I’m forced to work on this laptop. It used to be my favorite - i’d brag to people about how great it is. Now I try my hardest to avoid using it. I carry around my bulkier macbook - and my even bulkier #$&& windows laptop and use WSL - because having my wifi drop randomly every 10 minutes SUUUUUUUCKS!
This is not on official support forum, its a community forum.
To the actual issue, yes the latests 6.14 kernels have had issues with different wifis. This is just the business on linux, especially with hardware from manufacturer that is known for not so great linux support.
This issue is not exclusive to Linux distros. OP experienced this on Windows 10 Pro. I am having the exact same issue on Windows 11.
I got my mother a framework too, before I became disillusioned by the level of support / maintenance this company offers. She was also having these issues on Windows 11. I swapped the wifi card to an intel AX210, updated drivers and bios, I even replaced the antenna module. No improvement.
download FW official driver in to USB drive (prepare if network not work)
install windows, if network work, update windows.
install FW official driver, reboot.
download AMD graphic driver (link in AMD 7840 page), reboot.
launch graphic utility UI, detect if new driver exist.
I will install chipset driver and graphic driver at least 14 days released.
download RZ616 = MT7922 driver from HP Elitebook 845 G10 support page.
Install Bluetooth and WiFi driver, then reboot.
If you just want to improve network under Windows, I think do
step 4 to 6 maybe work.
If your WiFi AP only work at 2.4G, and there are more then 20 WiFi AP near you.
Sometime WiFi network not stable is normal because signal interference.
In my situation, sometime my phone WiFi not stable because too much 2.4GHz AP near me,
and I only have a 2.4GHz AP (ASUS RT-N18U with latest fresh tomanto firmware).
Buy a new 5GHz AP maybe work.
Change the RZ717 Wifi Device Properties > Advanced > Property: “Preferred Band” property from “1. No Preference” to “4. Prefer 6GHz band” (choose the value that is appropriate for you.)
I have the latest 5.5.0.3366 driver and before the change I was getting intermittent <100 Mbps… after the change >400Mbps
