I hear it all the time while gaming for example. It’s way louder than the Noctua G2.
From personal experience, if the CPU fan spins, it directs airflow outwards, and if the sys fan pushes inwards it makes no sense. I think the proper way would be for the fan to exhaust, and maybe a secondary sys fan to intake.
The APU fan directs air through the heatsink which is exactly what it was designed to do. There is a space at the top-front of the Desktop case to add an exhaust fan to expel air outward
Do thermals at least go down with the 80mm fan? Mine barely goes over 50 and I can hear the PSU fan.
I said in another thread, setting the APU and sys fans to 30% min duty cycle, barely triggers the psu fan.
you misunderstand or i mistyped.
the apu fan is an intake fan. it makes little sense for the sys fan to be an intake fan as well. in situations of high load the sys fan is fighting the airflow from the apu fan, both pushing air in.
overall i think we are on the same page.
OK, I just installed the 80mm front fan and my CPU/SSD thermals are definitely down to barely breaking 40s. I have not heard the PSU fan ramp up to 100%, not yet. Still, that 40mm fan feels like an eyesore on such a beautiful machine. I think they’ll address this eventually somehow.
yes, i think it is a solvable situation. multiple ways of solving it. i just don’t know what frame.work’s plan is, i.e. how deep they wanna go.
easiest way will be another psu fan duct which you may designate as a mitigation rather than a solution, as it does not address the source of the problem. but the end results for 80% if not 90% of the cases will be the same.
What’s actually interesting, I just ran some python codes that was slow and heavily unoptimized, did not do this on purpose just sorta accidentally happened. When my main CPU fan spins at 100% then starts to slow back down to idle it sounds like a plane landing. I think it’s some kinda vortex created by the dual fans. Anyway, it’s nothing too concerning to me. I am happy with thermals situation.
I have yet to hear the PSU fan at all, btw, I think it’s because the ramp up is silent until it gets to 100%.
For me, it ensures that airflow from the APU flows out the back of the case and not across the SSDs. I see the front-facing fan as primarily an intake for the SSD heatsinks, but that’s just my two cents
I agree with you on this as well. There are multiple angles. And ultimately this fan/ heat outflow is very often counter- intuitive.
Maybe it would have been best to have a place to put a second exhaust fan in the back connected to the sys2 fan header on the motherboard. But this space is occupied by the ports.
Over all, its a work in progress, but I am satisfied.
