I pre-ordered the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 mainboard to upgrade my Framework 13 Ryzen 7 7840U laptop. I already have the 2.8K display. What other parts have been upgraded in the AI 300 series laptop?
Will these parts be available soon? The mainboard is supposed to ship in the next few weeks. I’d really like to have the other parts to upgrade at the same time.
For the other parts, you might have to wait for a bit. I personally don’t have the data for their availability but based on historical data, they become available in the marketplace some time after we start shipping the first batch.
Thanks. I’m keeping my eye out for the availability notifications in my inbox.
The Wi-Fi 7 card is probably the only part I really need. I am using the Qualcomm NCM865 Wi-Fi 7 card right now, but some of my Bluetooth headphones don’t work well with it, where they did with the RZ616. So I’m hoping the RZ717 does both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth well.
I’m interested to try the new keyboard as well. The fingerprint reader doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade, so probably not necessary.
Were there any other parts that have changed that I might consider upgrading?
Does this mean the touchpad hasn’t changed? Because I was looking at getting Framework | Framework Input Cover Keyboard Kit but it sounds like I’d get the same touchpad I already have.
Also, does anyone know if the Framework 13 AMD 7840u shipped with the 2nd gen webcam? Or could I tell on my system?
I don’t think the touchpad has changed. So as long as your input cover is in good shape, the keyboard by itself, even with the fingerprint reader as well, is less expensive than the whole input cover combo.
I think it depends when you got your Framework 13 AMD 7840U. I got mine after the Intel Core Ultra Series 1 came out, so it has the 2.8K display with 2nd gen webcam. If you got it earlier, before the Core Ultra Series release, then it wouldn’t have the newer display or webcam.
In Windows Device Manager my camera says Laptop Webcam Module (2nd Gen), so you could check there.
For those of us upgrading our 13" AMD laptops… since the new keyboards use the pogo pin stuff, will the OG keyboards (ie from the AMD 7000 series 13" laptops) work with the new motherboards?
EDIT: NM! Someone helped me in another thread. I forgot that the pogo pin keyboard is currently only for the 12" laptop.
