FW13 7640U Fedora - best docking station available in Canada that supports 4k60 over DisplayPort?

Hi all,

I’ve just ordered a Framework 13 with the Ryzen 5 7640U processor and plan to run the latest version of Fedora. I’m looking into getting a docking station for it to use with my current monitor setup, it’s an older LG 27-inch 4k60 monitor that only supports 4k60 over DisplayPort. I’ve been looking at the docking station/hub master thread and have noticed a lot of the recommendations in it are either discontinued, not available in Canada, or do not have a DisplayPort connector on them. And many of them don’t list whether or not they are supported in Fedora or other flavours of Linux.

I would like to know if anyone here has a docking station or hub that works with Fedora (and Windows) and has a DisplayPort connector that outputs 4k60. In addition, I will be connecting ethernet, audio, and some USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse, camera, capture card…) to the dock/hub. I’d perfer if the dock/hub supports power delivery to keep the FW13 powered up and charged.

If worse comes to worst, I can get a DisplayPort expansion card and plug my monitor into that (I didn’t order one with the FW13 though), but it’s be nice to have a one-cable solution to all this. Thanks in advance for your support.

I’m not one to play favorites for docks but I do want to mention a few very relevant things.

  1. Stay away from display link docks. They require an out of tree driver and the experience is meh.
  2. Any comments you get about things not working (especially with MST monitors or Dell monitors) make sure they’re 6.15 or newer because there are patches that strongly increased compatibility.

I personally have used both Dell and Lenovo Thunderbolt docks on a framework 13 successfully. I have read success statements from a lot of brands.

Same as Mario, Dell wd19 the best you could get. Cheap if you shop around second hand and enough power to charge and drive all your devices. Works great in all distros and firmware is upgradable.

Thanks, I was able to find a WD19 on ebay with the 130w power adapter for a decent price, albeit with a broken usb-A port. I’ll give it a try and see how it works out.
