I’m almost pre-ordering a FW13 Pro right now but am hard-blocked on no silver-case being available right now. I know these are announced as marketplace parts, but I’d rather not have a spare black case lying around after I bought the replacement (kind of defeats the sustainability aspect I’m buying a FW product for). Will the marketplace part be available in the configurator when it’s out? And is it possible to pre-order the device without case (haha) and (hold?+) edit the pre-order for when(/until) the silver case is available?
Theoretically you could preorder the mainboard, RAM, storage, display frame, expansion modules, power supply etc. now and wait for the silver case to appear in the marketplace. Like this you could “Super-DIY” your 13 Pro in silver. The same way someone would upgrade their FW13 to Pro.

It says “To complete your build, you’ll need a Framework Laptop 13 Mainboard (with compatible memory and storage), Bezel, Wi-Fi module, Expansion Cards, and a USB-C Power Adapter.”

And then add the SSD, Expansion modules, Wifi, bezel and power supply.
This way nothing is wasted but I did not do the price math if that makes any sense to do. Especially since the silver case is not available right now, everything about prices is grayed out

what if you order now with black casing, and then when the shipping mail arrives somewhere in November, you either modify the order to silver casing or cancel the order (if silver colour won’t be available by then)?

seems like the best option, thank you for making me aware of that!
order-cancel would mean I’m subject to new hardware-prices (who knows where they will go 
) and I’d loose my spot in the pre-order-queue.
If an order-modification to include a marketplace-part is possible was kind of my hidden question. I’d have guessed no bc they could just include the part in the (pre-order!)configurator now and mark it as unavailable or smth.

Glad to help. But yeah if you were to preorder the black model, chances are that you have to cancel. Or maybe you can sell the black chassis for people seeking to upgrade their FW13 to Pro but that’s another risk.
